My review
*9/10 Stars*

My Friend Suhana is a delightful read about the unconditional friendship  between Suhana, a seven year old girl with Cerebral Palsy and the narrator, a kind, loving kid who calls Suhana her best friend and cares for her like a sister. Though Suhana can't talk or show her emotions like usual children, she squeals with glee or screams in unhappiness. The two girls' friendship is that of unconditional love and care, where they understand each other without the need for words or play dates. Aanyah, the narrator, likes to draw and paint. She fills Suhana's world with beautiful pictures that Suhana cherishes and loves. I found myself awwww-ing at almost every cute illustrated page of this storybook.

Teaching children to accept, understand and care about those who are different, would make them grow up to be a compassionate, empathetic and kind person towards others. I'm sure, My Friend Suhana would be a wonderful addition to any school or children's library.

Aanyah Abdullah is a creative and compassionate 10-year-old, who is drawn to children born with physical and mental disabilities. When she was in second grade, Aanyah along with her mother Shaila, started volunteering out at a local community center where they helped assist special needs children. Later Aanyah wrote an essay about her friendship with a girl in the class who had cerebral palsy. That essay is the inspiration behind My Friend Suhana. Aanyah dreams of establishing a special school for children with disabilities one day. She is known to always stand up for what is right and is-–in her parents’ and teachers’ eyes––a perfect role model for her baby sister.
