My verdict

Damn. This story is going to stay with me forever.

What amazing writing. It's good I took Jessie's advice and went into it without knowing anything about the plot or the characters.

The big reveal at the end... I did NOT see it coming. My heart beat actually escalated for a second there. I had to read and re-read the chapter a few times to let it sink in. Throughout that chapter, I kept saying 'Oh god... Oh god... wtf nooooo...'. I really don't want to spoil this book for anyone by divulging anything. So I'm keeping the review a bit short here.

I have to say though, I thought I did not love the characters as I read the story. I did not feel much for them, did not care at all. BUT, I was wrong. At some point through the book, they crept up and grew on me. I did not even realize when I started to care. And BAM! The big reveal left me gasping for air on the cold concrete floor, while I lay clutching at the splatters of blood and shredded chunks of my heart... Well, not literally. Thank you E. Lockhart, you metaphor queen.

Go read it people. Get your heart clawed out by this beautiful book (and again, amazing writing). I know you'll love it.
