Top Ten Favorite Psychology Driven Books
1. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. A wonderfully written book addressing how difficult it can be to talk about rape when no one believes you.
2. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I loved this book! A girl sends a set of tapes to the people she blamed for her suicide. Really shows a person how easy it is to hurt someone.
3. Inside the Criminal Mind by Stanton Samenow. This book helped tremendously with getting inside the mind of the criminal I wrote into my own works.
4. Teens Under the Influence by Katherine Ketcham and Nicholas A. Pace, M.D. I'd done some research on teens and drug use. The things I learned in this book assisted me as I took on the endeavor of portraying this in my second novel, Punished.
5. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Loss is hard. So how do you face your own illness? Especially as a teenager who has only begun to live knowing it ends one way?
6. Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. This may not be initially construed as a psychological story, but do you know what happens when a person is given false hope? When the hope is gone, they spiral.
7. Tick Tock by Dean Koontz. Loved and hated this book. Nothing should ever come out of a handmade doll. Want something that will toy with your mind? This book will do that.
8. False Memory by Dean Koontz. We all have those moments when what we remember isn't exactly what happened. A detail here or there that is slightly inaccurate. But how do you react when not only are your memories wrong, but someone you trust is the one who made them that way?
9. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. A classic tale of just how mad a person can be driven when determination goes too far. The most interesting thing was how all these years I'd assumed it was the monster named Frankenstein, not the doctor.
10. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. Suicide doesn't just impact those who commit it, but the people who are left behind too. Lia's issues with anorexia become more prominent as guilt and the ghost of her once best friend overrun her life.

At the age of 16, Krys Fenner fell in love with Psychology and Creative Writing. At that time she wrote her first short story dealing with sexual abuse and forgiveness. Psychological issues in her family filled her with the desire to help others using her own experiences. So in 2004, she earned an Associate of Arts in Psychology. And while her sister is the one with dreams of becoming a Psychologist, Krys Fenner returned to Creative Writing.
