Top Five List
The author's top 5 evening snacks!
1. Bananas.
Somewhere around the age of fifteen, I started having a banana every night before I went to sleep. Now, I have a difficult time sleeping if I don’t have a banana in the evening. So every night for the past thirty-five years, part of my “bedtime snack” is a banana. Ironically, I don’t really like things with banana flavoring, just a fresh, semi-ripe banana.
2. Ice Cream.
I love ice cream and sherbet. Almost every evening, I have a bowl of ice cream. Mango sherbet, mint chip, and neapolitan are my favorite flavors and I rotate between the three. I find ice cream very calming at the end of a stressful day.
3. Chocolate Chip Cookies.
The old standard is still one of the best! The worst part is waiting for them to cool enough to eat after they come out of the oven. I love them warm after baking, and then dunked in milk the next day. No batch lasts longer than two days in my home!
4. Red Velvet Cake.
I’m not a big cake eater, but I sometimes crave the tantalizing flavors of Red Velvet Cake. Cream cheese frosting (I also love cheesecake!) with rich, cocoa flavored cake is hard to resist.
5. Brownies.
At this point, you’re probably thinking I have an enormous sweet tooth. But I don’t eat any sweets during the day. My evening snack is the only time I finally indulge my cravings. Homemade brownies may be the greatest comfort food of all time.
