From author, Ephraim Benton
What inspired you to create Dreaming About The Many What To Do's While In Brooklyn?
Actually I created the book 5 years ago and was just holding on to it. I kind of knew in advance where Brooklyn was heading as far as being an International destination and I thought this would be my contribution to that change. I even have a forward from the Brooklyn Borough President and full support from his office.
Can you tell us what kind of research and planning went behind the book?
I personally took 85% of the photographs in the book with my android phone. I had to do a lot of updating because things were constantly changing with Brooklyn's development. I've visited most of the places in the book while growing up as a child or know of certain places by seeing them in my travels. Last I would constantly google new places, venues, activities and local destinations that would be of interest to children.
What are some of the biggest challenges or learning experiences you faced throughout the writing, illustrating and publishing process.
Well I didn't really have issues, but it was very time consuming when it came to getting permission from certain entities to use their logo or rights to a photographers picture off the web. That's what made me just go and take my own pictures to avoid legal issues. I also just assumed it would be just for children, but adults have purchased because it can help them learn about these places they didn't even know existed.
Would you like to share a few tips on being an awesome writer?
Just write what you feel at heart. Try to have fun, be open minded and creative. Basically, Dream.
Do you get creative blocks or burnouts? How do you get out of those, if and when you do?
I don't get creative blocks but sometimes I have to pace my self when I'm trying to do so many things in general at once.
What do you do when you are not writing?
I work in the entertainment industry and I own two other companies. I'm always in a state of creating, developing as an entrepreneur and giving back to my community. I have and non-profit organization with my partner that empowers the community through cultural, health and socio economic events throughout the year.
What's next?
I'm currently writing Dreaming About The Many What To Do's While In Manhattan
Any special thoughts for the readers?
I truly hope you enjoy this wonderful Planet called Brooklyn. It has a lot to offer it's visitors and local community. Even if a child lives around the world, this book will make you feel like you have visited from the comfy space of your couch.

What are some of the biggest challenges or learning experiences you faced throughout the writing, illustrating and publishing process?
The images combine illustration and photography. The challenge was to unify them and still maintain their distinct formats.
Would you like to share a few tips on being an awesome illustrator?
As an illustrator, I think its important to find interesting approaches that help the reader to identify with the characters in such a way that he/she wants to follow them through the journey of the story.
What is your favorite artistic medium to work with? Favorite materials?
I prefer using mixed media. Combing traditional mediums with digital illustration and/ or photographic elements opens a whole world of extended possibilities.

Do you get creative blocks or burnouts? How do you get out of those, if and when you do?
I find that the biggest challenge is deciding on the character and illustration style. Once that's determined, the rest usually flows well. I am also a painter and teacher. Juggling the creative responsibilities, time lines and studio time can cause the blocks and burnouts. Alternating projects and focus, helps me maintain my passion for each discipline and often provides me with inspiration or a spring board for other works.
What do you do when you are not illustrating or drawing?
I spend time researching subjects of interest and other art's works.
